Is it really my problem?

The cops are on the case. They're wrong, but they're on it.

No one asked me to get involved.

I'm not even getting paid.

(The detective kicks his office door open with a heavy “THUNK,” stopping mid-stride, with his coat and jacket in hand.

(Inside his office, the detective sits at his desk, gripping a rotary telephone receiver with urgency. A desk lamp and hat rack are visible.)

Detective:
"Operator! Get me Sergeant Hartley at Police HQ."
